Ricmedia Guitar is now running on WordPress!

I would like to introduce you to the new Ricmedia Guitar WordPress Website! This is just a preview of what is to come but you get the general idea, and there will be tons of new features to come.
You may or may not not the history of this website, so let me explain what’s been happening since the launch and a little background on myself too…
After the launch of Ricmedia Guitar in 2009 I got caught up in a lot of web design work, which made it near on impossible for me to continue publishing lessons and making Flash tools etc on a regular basis. I pretty much had to let the site “find it’s feet” to see if it had the right formula to be a successful guitar lesson portal. As it turns out, it does have the “right stuff” and has been gathering new users, maintaining current users and growing at a rapid pace over the past 3 years, so much so that I am now looking to start publishing lessons again “en masse” (more on that soon).
I spent a long time developing the whole website structure and in terms of code, it’s amazingly cool, but I intend concentrating on publishing more high-quality lessons rather than the HTML code, so I have decided (after installing WordPress on many client websites and being very happy with the result) to use WordPress as my complete publishing platform for Ricmedia Guitar. I will be porting all current lessons and tools to WordPress over the next 3 to 6 months and re-launching in Q1 2013. The current website will not be effected in any way and during this period I will be offering all users the ability to subscribe to the Ricmedia Guitar Newsletter so you can be notified when the new site is up and running, and also whenever a new lesson is published.
I can’t go into details about the sort of features and content I will be producing once the website is fully ported over, but let me just say it’s very exciting! So make sure you subscribe to the newsletter to get the latest news and lessons via email.
A little bit about myself: my name is Richie (hence Ricmedia) and I have been playing guitar for over 26 years and teaching guitar for about 20 years. In 1992 at the age of 18, I traveled to Los Angeles, California to study at the Musicians Institute (G.I.T) where I graduated 12 months later (I will be writing many posts on my life during this period once the website is re-launched, lot’s of amazing stories!). After returning home to Australia I started up my own guitar teaching practice (Musicians Workshop) in the Melbourne suburb of Warranwood, which maintained a steady 55 students for the next 10 or so years. I also played in several bands playing mainly Blues, Soul and Funk. My style is based on Blues with a Rock edge but I love to play all styles of music including Funk, Hard Rock, Alternative, some Pop, instrumental and I play electric and acoustic guitar, bass, and a little keys too. I am a music theory monster and shall impart all my knowledge on you via this website 🙂
The gear I use as follows:

  • Red Fender Strat, custom 22 fret neck, Texas Specials, some mods
  • Fernandes modern Strat, 24 fret, DiMarzio pups, some mods
  • 1972 Ovation Celebrity acoustic guitar with Fishman pup
  • Zoom G2 multi-effects unit
  • Ibanez Tube Screamer and BOSS DS-1 pedals with mods
  • Custom, hand built tube amp loosely based on Fender Vibro Champ w/mods
  • Original JEN Electronics Wah-Wah pedal w/mod (seriously rare!)
  • I use 11-52 medium top/heavy bottom strings on my Red Strat (GHS)
  • I use 10-46 on my Fernandez modern Strat (D’Addario or Pure Tone)
  • Jim Dunlop Stubby 3.0mm purple plectrums/picks

Cheers!
